Skip NavigationAfter learning that a great many teachers around the state were spending their own money to purchase much-needed classroom supplies, the staff at American Carpet One Floor & Home in Honolulu, HI knew they wanted to lend a hand.
In late December, American Carpet One crew members distributed over 600 area rugs and carpet remnants to educators in the Oahu school district and surrounding communities. The store invited the teachers to stop by the store on a Saturday to pick out their new rugs. Within minutes of the opening a line had formed around the front door.
The rugs typically sell for $50 to $300. According to recent data compiled by the Economic Policy Institute, Hawaiian teachers annually spend over $500 of their personal funds towards items needed for their students and respective classrooms.
Daniel Arita, American Carpet One’s vice president, said it was one of many ways that the local store tries to be a caring neighbor in times of need. “We love giving back to the community and this was one of our best events yet,” he added.
